Water System

Our BOL is a double wide modular home, mounted on a full walk-out basement. This house uses Propane for the Stove, Furnace and Hot water heater.
The first thing that was replaced was the Stove, we still stayed with propane for now but the stove in the house was not burning properly so it was replaced.
The second thing we had to do was replace the hot water heater. This hot water tank had a safety door that would close and starve the burner of O2 thus putting out the flame. It worked by having a glass vial in the fire box that held a spring loaded door open. If heated to over 400 degrees the glass vial would shatter and the door would shut. The previous owners wedged the door open. The hot water heater was located in the kitchen. Since we had to replace I installed a 50gal electric hot water heater in the basement, now we have more pantry space in the kitchen.
The next thing that was done was to clean up the water. The water source is a deep well, but it does not reach the underground spring so the water is well, WELL WATER. It has a yellow hew to it and is hard. So I installed Whirlpool 40000 Grain Water Softener. This does a good job of softening the water and removing the iron from the water. However, there was a rotten egg smell when using the hot water. The cold water was fine. I learned that a bacteria in the water that when heated causes this smell. To get rid of it I put in a Whole House Filter with a Carbon element. Then I poured a gallon of bleach down the well to clean out the already growing bacteria in the hot water tank. It worked and now we have good clean water.
